GARDENING FOR NEWBIES

Hi! Let me first say that the Red Shed Strawberry Farm from my last blog has NO berries this year due to the freeze.
OK...can i just tell you how easy starting a garden is?! I wanted to to try growing organic veggies for the longest time to cut down on grocery expense. So, knowing NOTHING about this, I got 10 packets of different veggies (organic seeds) and some peat pellets from Lowes. After pouring warm water on the peat pellets, they expanded like magic right before my eyes. Remember those sponge pills that you put in the bath and they grow into shapes? I felt like a kid again...cool! I put 1-2 seeds in each pellet and left them on the counter. The next morning I woke up as if Santa Clause had just come down my chimney and ran to look at the globs of dirt. Nothing. What did I expect after half a day? But no fear, day 2 came around and cucumber and pea sprouts already. The ironic part is that I don't really like either of these. Within a couple more days, I had tomato, zuchinni, squash, pepper, green bean and even carrot sprouts! Who would have thought so soon and so easy? Waiting on the spinach now. So try it! Let me, who has always lacked a green thumb, tell you how simple this has been. Soon I will be eating the fruits of my labor (or should I say the vegetables of my choice)!

Strawberries, Oranges and Coupons...Oh My!

Hello, Followers!
I'll make this one quick. I have a friend who encourages me to find different ways to cut back on finances while continuing to eat healthy (which can get pricey!). Here are some ideas for this week:
1. It's strawberry time! Go on a family day to pick em'...you're going to spend money anyway, do something fun AND eat the benefits too(hehe). Look online for your nearest farms. For the locals: Red Shed Strawberry Farm in Clermont 407-414-7497.
2. There is nothing better than freshed squeezed OJ! Several people I know have orange trees and dont even pick them! Ask if you can take a bag home from someone who has an over abundance. My little girl LOVES to squeeze juice with me and its free.
3. Go to several of the websites of the food brands you buy. Many sites have printable coupons right there! Restaurants do this too. Check out Organic Valley website at http://www.organicvalley.coop/coupons/ for one example.

Stay Tuned for the next blog on organic gardening!

Kelly's Grand Entrance

Hello Readers! I am so excited to tell you about my new endeavour. Don't worry...if you are snubbing this already because it's another blog, I am hoping to change your mind and fill your precious time with helpful tidbits to make life easier!

This blog is about living a simple and healthy lifestyle. I believe we have to address the spiritual, physical, and emotional/mental areas in our lives to experience the life God has created for us. Each blog will contain information about one of these areas. I also plan to try different products and healthy foods and report back to you with my reviews.

Who am I anyway? I am a wife, mommy and physical therapist who is currently staying at home while raising my sweet little girl. It's the greatest joy to have this privilege, but comes with many sacrifices. That actually ignited my idea to begin blogging. We are having to cut back financially and do not want to give up healthy eating to do so. I am determined to find ways to save on natural foods and want to share them with anyone struggling (OK, that's most of the population right now!). This, coupled with my passion for fitness makes a well-balanced blog!

It is my goal to reach as many people and encourage you to be the best that you can be (am i going to get sued for using the Army's slogan?). Your ideas on blog topics are welcomed and I am excited to begin this journey with you!
